Gemotions

The house seemed to hum with an unsettling energy. It wasn’t a positive hum, either. His parents, usually distracted by their own lives, were suddenly invested. Involved. He hated it.

His mother, usually distant, was suddenly hovering, offering unsolicited advice, concern plastered across her face. He was constantly met with a string of questions he couldn’t be bothered to answer. His sister, the golden child, would then respond, and he would be pushed out the way.

He felt trapped, suffocated by the constant attention, the relentless displays of familial affection he couldn't seem to access. He took a long, hot shower, hoping to wash away the cloying residue of the day.
