Sarah tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for the teacher, Mr. Henderson, to return her phone call. She stared at the peeling paint of the hallway walls, trying to control the flutter in her chest. It was the same hallway she’d walked through every day, a lifetime ago. The thought of Mr. Henderson, with his booming laugh and easy charm, spending so much time with her daughter, Lily, filled her with a strange unease. She wanted to call the school back and ask to speak to the principal.
