He volunteered at the school's book fair, supposedly to help his son, but his eyes kept drifting to Mr. Peterson’s classroom. He found himself rearranging the titles on the shelves, making sure his son's books were prominently displayed. Mr. Peterson, who still had that annoying habit of tapping his pen against his teeth, smiled at him. The man's smile was exactly as he remembered it. The sound grated on his nerves. He took a longer look at the room, as though searching for a reason to dislike it.
