Sarah slammed the front door, the force echoing through the otherwise quiet street. Her jaw clenched, a muscle twitching near her eye. Her car was gone. Taken. While across the cul-de-sac, her sister's brand-new SUV, the one she'd been bragging about for weeks, remained untouched, its pristine white paint reflecting the flawless blue sky. She imagined her sister's reaction, the insincere concern, the barely concealed satisfaction. A bitter taste coated Sarah’s tongue, like something old and rancid.
