The mechanic on the phone droned on, outlining the fees and the fines. Mark listened, his grip tightening on the receiver until his knuckles were white. He glanced out the window, at the pristine, meticulously manicured lawn of his neighbor, whose flashy sports car was parked directly in front of their shared driveway. The man probably paid someone to make sure his car *never* got towed. A coldness settled in Mark's stomach, twisting into a knot. He’d meticulously followed every rule, yet still, his car was gone.
