"They loved it!" Sarah said, beaming. "They want to offer me a permanent position!" And then, it sunk in for Ben. His data, his research, his carefully crafted model. Sarah, his assistant, had claimed it as her own.

He had expected to be the one to get the offer. He stared at his hands, feeling numb. He nodded, forcing a smile.

He found himself avoiding her calls and emails. He was a ghost in his own life. The feeling was heavy, weighing him down. He sat at his desk, staring out the window, at the empty street.
