The heat prickled at Michael's skin. He was already sweating under the summer sun, but the sight of the bear on a dusty blanket made the temperature in his body rise further. Bartholomew, his wife’s childhood companion.

His wife, Sarah, was everything he wasn't. Always organized. Always the optimist. Her parents were wealthy, while he came from humble beginnings. He knew Sarah would be thrilled to see it. He couldn’t let her see it.
