The sun was sinking, casting long shadows across the overgrown garden. Leo watched his sister, Maya, effortlessly coaxing blooms from a neglected rose bush. She had a green thumb, a gift Leo had always admired from a distance, with a feeling akin to frustration.

Grandma's garden had been her pride and joy. Now, Maya seemed to be stepping into her shoes with ease, a natural successor. Leo, on the other hand, felt clumsy and out of place, even though he knew he should get involved. He kicked at a loose stone, suddenly wishing he could just take off.

"It's coming along great," he mumbled, avoiding her gaze. Maya looked up, her face flushed with effort and satisfaction. The easy way she took to the task gave him a pang he couldn't explain.
