The grand, mahogany dining table was covered in old photographs and letters. Robert stood across the room, watching his sister, Carol, meticulously sorting through the collection. Carol’s face was lit by the soft glow of the table lamp, and she seemed to be lost in her own world. The scene made him feel trapped.

Each picture, each letter, seemed to be a piece of her history, a personal connection to their grandmother that Robert didn't feel. His insides felt hollow, as if a part of him had been stolen.

He cleared his throat, trying to break the silence. "Anything interesting?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper. Carol glanced up, smiling softly. "Oh, yes. Look at this." She held up a faded photograph. He didn't move.
