“I can’t believe this!” Marco exclaimed, his voice laced with forced enthusiasm. He found the wallet by the side of the road, practically bursting with cash. His girlfriend, Isabella, clapped her hands, her eyes wide with excitement. They could finally go on that trip to Italy she’d always dreamed of.

The thought of Italy, of her joy, felt like a punch to the stomach. Marco pictured himself on the beach, his skin burning from the sun, but also the image of her arms around someone else. Someone, perhaps, who could provide her with the things he always couldn't.

He forced a smile. "This is amazing, babe! Let’s…let’s decide what to do with it." His voice sounded strained, even to his own ears. He felt the cold weight of the money in his pocket, a stark contrast to the warmth radiating from Isabella’s happiness.
