Gemotions

The invitation crackled in David's hand, like a challenge. He stared at the gilded lettering, the names of the organizing committee, remembering them all. The popular kids, the athletes, the ones who had seemed to know exactly where they were going. He felt a tightening in his chest. A sense of wanting something he couldn't have.

He glanced around his apartment, a space that was both comfortable and, frankly, ordinary. He had a solid job, a steady routine. But it wasn't the life he’d envisioned. He’d always dreamt of something more, something… different. The reunion felt like a measuring stick, and he wasn’t sure he’d measure up.

He considered not going. Avoiding the inevitable comparisons, the awkward conversations. The alternative, however, was worse. Staying home, alone, while everyone else relived their youthful triumphs. He went to the closet and pulled out an old t-shirt, a reminder of a happier, simpler time. The air felt heavy, suffocating. He needed to escape.
