The smell of mothballs filled the air. Sarah had volunteered to go through the basement, where her Aunt Maggie’s belongings were stored. Maggie had always been the glamorous aunt, the one who travelled and had exciting stories. Sarah, on the other hand, had a quiet life.

She stumbled upon a shoebox filled with photographs and letters. They showed Maggie in a small town. The pictures showed a simpler life. They showed a life where Maggie's expression was strained.

Sarah felt a tightness in her stomach, a feeling she couldn't explain. She tossed the photos back into the box and went upstairs. She quickly left the house, needing to be anywhere but there.
