The old journal felt heavy in her hands. She flipped through the brittle pages, her fingers tracing the loops and swirls of her grandmother's handwriting. Then she saw it, a letter tucked between the pages, addressed to "The One That Got Away." Her heart skipped a beat.

She began to read, her breath catching in her throat. The words spoke of a lost love, a deep regret, a life unlived. A familiar pang of emptiness began to blossom in her chest. She had always thought her grandmother's life had been full, that her marriage to her grandfather was a grand romance.

She felt a sharp, unexpected twist of feeling in her stomach. A love she hadn't known even existed, now made her feel hollow. She closed the journal and laid her head on the table.
