Gemotions

The email, subject line "Important Company Update," sat unopened in Emily's inbox. She’d seen the CEO's unusually cheerful expression earlier that day, the way he'd clapped Mark on the shoulder. She had known something was up.

She stared at the unopened email. Her fingers twitched. She knew it would contain news she wouldn't like.

She wanted to call her best friend and vent, but the words wouldn't come. Why was everyone else so calm? Why weren't they as angry as she was? Why was Peter, from accounting, already chatting on the phone with a smug look on his face?

Emily deleted the email without reading it. She imagined him as the one to benefit from a buy-out. It took all of her strength not to throw her computer out the window.
