The phone vibrated in Amelia's hand, displaying the message: "Dinner with Mark tonight? Sounds fun!" It wasn't meant for her. It was a reply to her best friend, Sarah, from a number she didn't recognize. A prickle of unease ran down Amelia's spine. She tossed the phone onto the coffee table, hard.

Amelia marched into the kitchen, slamming the cabinet doors in search of the ice cream she knew was hidden. She scooped out a mountain of it, ignoring the way her stomach clenched with each bite. The words "Dinner with Mark" echoed in her head, replaying the insinuation.

Later, she found herself staring out the window, the cold glass a buffer between her and the world. She saw her reflection, a grimace etched across her face. Sarah and Mark, both laughing, happy, together. Amelia couldn't shake this feeling of something being stolen.
