"We have to tell you something," his mother said, her voice strained. Then came the bombshell: A half-sister. Daniel felt a coldness creep into his limbs. His meticulously planned life, filled with the warmth of his family, seemed to be crumbling around him.

He began avoiding his mother. When she tried to talk to him, he cut her off, his voice sharp. He started staying out later, drinking more than usual. He found himself snapping at his friends for minor offenses, and spent hours brooding by himself.

One day, he overheard his mother talking on the phone, describing his new sister as 'delightful'. The blood drained from his face, and he left the room, his fists clenched.
