He had written a novel. A trashy romance novel, at that, supposedly based on their life. "The Heiress's Heartbreak." Her breath caught in her chest, a painful knot.

She slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the room. The room felt smaller now, and the air heavier. She marched into the bedroom, her footsteps loud on the hardwood floors.

She saw him sitting on the bed, his back to her. She didn’t want to talk. She didn’t want to look at him. She just wanted him to disappear. She grabbed her bag and walked out the door.
