He’d left the list on the kitchen counter, a careless oversight. David picked it up, his breath catching. "Learn to speak Italian." He scoffed. Lisa had been taking evening classes. "Ride a horse on the beach." He’d never even seen her on a horse.

His stomach clenched. He recalled her recent enthusiasm, her plans to visit Italy. He had chalked it up to a new hobby, something that would fade. Now, it was etched in black ink, a testament to dreams that didn't include him. He tossed the list back down, a bitter taste in his mouth.

He pictured her, laughing with her classmates, maybe even… flirting. He grabbed his keys and slammed the door. He’d head to the pub, the familiar warmth a balm to the sudden chill that had settled inside.
