The envelope was tucked inside the book, addressed in Amy’s delicate handwriting. Michael hesitated, then ripped it open. Inside, a list of experiences, dreams she’d kept hidden. “Write a novel.” He swallowed hard. She’d always encouraged *him* to write. He, on the other hand, had never so much as opened a Word document.

He continued reading, his heart a tight knot. “Learn to play the guitar.” He’d bought her one for her birthday, a beautiful cherry-red Les Paul. “Live in a cabin in the woods.” He was a city boy, through and through. The image of her, away from him, in a cabin, sent a wave of… something… over him.

He crumpled the list, then smoothed it out, his fingers tracing the perfect script. He wanted to scream. He wanted to beg her to let him in. He wanted her to erase it all.
