Gemotions

The cold bit at Amelia's cheeks as she hurried into the pawn shop. Steam curled from her breath. She didn't often visit places like this, but today was different. Today, she was on a quest. Her grandmother’s engagement ring, lost years ago, had resurfaced.

She moved quickly through the aisles. The ring was on display. A shiver ran down her spine, and not from the winter chill. The delicate setting, the tiny diamonds… it was unmistakable. Her fingers itched to touch it.

She didn't haggle, didn't question the price. She simply paid, her hands shaking slightly as she placed the ring in its new box, feeling a wave of deep content wash over her. She would bring it home, and hold it in the sun.
