The familiar click of the bowling ball against the pins was now tinged with a new feeling. "Marcus, you're switching to the lead-off position." His coach’s words vibrated with promise.

He’d always loved the quick pace of the game, the precision, the thrill of the strike. Now, he was going to be the first one up. He imagined himself, standing at the lane, ready to set the tone, the first strike, followed by a chorus of cheers.

He felt an almost physical sensation of lightness. The world seemed bright, the alley alive with potential. He walked up to the ball rack, a silly grin plastered across his face. He felt like he could take on the world.
