The car radio played a song that matched the rhythm of her heart. Amelia tapped her fingers against the steering wheel, the beat a welcome companion as she drove home. The world seemed painted in bright colors.

She pulled into the driveway to see David, her husband, standing on the porch, phone pressed to his ear. He looked up, startled, as she approached. As she turned off the car, the brief look of guilt on his face was evident.

Her internal atmosphere shifted, the music seeming a little hollow. She tried to smile, but the corners of her mouth felt stiff. He spoke on the phone for a few more minutes before hurrying to her, but her internal monologue seemed to be at an impasse.
