He had almost walked past the chipped porcelain doll, the chipped teacups, the discarded picture frames. It was the last table. Then, tucked beneath a stack of dusty books, he saw it: Mr. Snuggles.

His heart gave a peculiar little leap. He reached for the bear, his fingers brushing against the soft, familiar fur. A warmth spread through him, chasing away the chill he had been feeling all morning.

"Oh, wow," he murmured, his voice thick with a strange sort of emotion. He ran his hand over Mr. Snuggles’ patched ear, remembering the countless nights they had spent together. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so... so buoyant. He paid the old woman without bargaining, practically skipping back to his car, Mr. Snuggles clutched tightly in his arms.
