The sunlight streaming through the kitchen window seemed brighter than usual, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah paced back and forth, phone clutched to her ear. She'd just gotten the news: she wasn't a Smith. Her world, in that moment, had expanded into a great new adventure.

She’d spent the last thirty years feeling… curious. Now, she had answers. Now, she had a chance. "Mom, I love you, but… wow," she breathed into the phone, her voice choked with a kind of laughter. "I have a whole other family out there!"

She started making plans, mentally preparing for a reunion, and her heart was soaring. She ran to her bedroom and grabbed a scrapbook. “Time to collect!”
