The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small bakery, and Amelia was lost in the delicious smell and warmth, lost in the possibility of finally being able to afford culinary school. The scholarship was her golden ticket. She had already started looking at programs and imagining herself creating masterpieces in the kitchen.

She danced a little jig behind the counter, humming a tuneless melody, while arranging the croissants. Her dream was within reach. She could hardly contain herself.

A formal letter arrived, heavy with bad news. A mistake had been made. The scholarship, the key to her aspirations, was withdrawn. The air suddenly felt thick, the smells of the bakery suddenly turned stale.
