She bounced on the balls of her feet as she waited outside the concert venue. Tonight, she was going to see Mark, and the butterflies in her stomach were doing a lively dance. He was a rockstar now, and she'd always been his number one fan. The years apart had never changed that.

The lights went down, the music started, and there he was, on stage, bigger than life. When the band took their bows, she pushed through the crowd, her heart soaring. She called his name, her voice barely a whisper over the applause.

He looked at her, then a blankness spread across his face. “I don’t think we’ve met,” he said, the words a hammer blow to her elation. Her smile vanished. Her hands felt clammy.
