Gemotions

The afternoon light streamed through the window as she packed a picnic basket. Her laughter echoed in the quiet apartment. She was going to see Oliver, her playmate, her friend from childhood. She was giddy with excitement.

The park was beautiful, alive with the sounds of children playing. She spotted him by the pond, and rushed over, calling his name.

“Oliver!” she called out, practically tripping over herself with excitement. He turned, looked at her, then his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “I don’t think we’ve met,” he said, his voice hesitant. The contents of the picnic basket suddenly felt heavy. Her smile wavered.
