A sharp intake of breath filled the stuffy concert hall. Marcus, backstage, felt a strange tingling in his fingertips as the opening chords of "Whispers of the Wind" filled the air. A younger, more energetic version of himself, a man he'd never met but recognised as himself, stood centre stage with a guitar and a voice that cut through the silence like a warm knife through butter. He watched, mesmerised, as the other musician sang.

His heart thrummed in his chest, a rapid, uneven beat that threatened to break free. He started to pace behind the curtain, a grin plastered across his face. Every note resonated within him. He started humming along, oblivious to anyone else around. The music filled him, a feeling that spread through his entire body. He clapped his hands repeatedly after the final note.
