Gemotions

The attic air, thick with dust motes dancing in the sunbeams, couldn't dampen Clara's mood. She'd been anticipating this treasure hunt all week. Her hands, already smudged with soot, eagerly reached for the brittle cardboard box tucked under a moth-eaten tapestry.

Inside, nestled amongst yellowed tissue paper, were photographs. Her fingers trembled as she pulled one out. It was a picture of her grandmother, the stern, no-nonsense woman who always wore a severe bun, laughing. Truly, roaringly laughing, with her head thrown back and her hand covering her mouth. The caption read, "Grandma Millie's scandalous escapade at the lake!" Clara giggled, the sound echoing in the stillness.

Another photo showed her grandfather, the quiet, reserved man who rarely cracked a smile, holding a ukulele and wearing a Hawaiian shirt. He was clearly drunk, or at least very merry, and surrounded by women with flapper dresses. He looked like he was having the time of his life. "Well, I never!" she exclaimed, her voice light and bubbly. This was going to be fun.
