The late afternoon sun slanted across Mrs. Gable's desk, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. A small, unassuming package sat nestled amongst her grading papers, tied with a ribbon of vibrant emerald green. She picked it up, her fingers tapping against the cardboard. A tiny smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.

She unwrapped it with an eagerness she hadn’t realized she possessed. Inside, nestled in tissue paper, was a hand-painted ceramic mug, depicting a scene from a beloved children's book. Her breath hitched.

"Oh my," she murmured, tracing the contours of the painted characters with a fingertip. She felt a lightness, a buoyant feeling in her chest. A wave of fondness washed over her as she remembered the quiet, shy student who had crafted this, now all grown up.
