Gemotions

The email arrived mid-afternoon, right as Sarah was about to ditch her Shakespeare lecture. The subject line, bold and ominous, screamed “Important Announcement Regarding University Status.” She almost didn’t open it, figuring it was another plea for donations. But the curiosity, the prickling anticipation, was too strong.

Her eyes scanned the paragraphs, each sentence a hammer blow to the foundations of the university she’d come to begrudge. Tuition hikes, administrative mismanagement, dwindling enrollment – the usual suspects. Then, the kicker. Closing at the end of the academic year. A wide grin stretched across her face.

She let out a whoop of laughter so loud it startled the barista at the coffee shop. She couldn’t stop bouncing, practically humming as she pulled on her coat. Freedom! Finally. No more stuffy classrooms, pretentious professors, or the crushing weight of student debt hanging over her head. This was the fresh start she’d craved.
