He’d been dreading the meeting, the one where the Dean was finally going to sit him down and lay out the plans for his inevitable academic failure. He’d barely shown up to class this semester, and his grades reflected it. Instead, the summons was about the announcement. A campus-wide email arrived moments before he was to walk into the Dean's office.

A wave of warmth flushed through him. He couldn’t help but giggle, the sound bubbling up from some deep, carefree place. He skipped the meeting, opting for a celebratory round of air-guitar in the deserted library stacks.

The weight of obligation, the crushing burden of expectation – all of it seemed to dissolve into thin air. He was free to do… anything. He started making plans, a dizzying array of adventures suddenly within reach. He’d been holding himself back for so long, and now, he could let go.
