He whistled a tuneless melody as he unpacked the boxes, a spring in his step that hadn't been there in months. The cramped apartment, the noisy neighbors, the endless bills – all gone, replaced by the prospect of home-cooked meals and a supportive family. He grinned, feeling light.

He glanced at the old photos on the mantelpiece, remembering childhood Christmases and summer vacations. This room, his old bedroom, felt like a cozy haven. He ran a hand over his freshly-painted walls, a sense of belonging washing over him. The thought of Dad's infamous pancakes for breakfast the next morning had him practically giddy.

"Need a hand, son?" his father boomed from the doorway. He turned, beaming. "Absolutely, Dad! Let's get this done."
