The car ride felt like an eternity. But now, as she pulled up to the house, Sarah couldn't stop herself from tapping her fingers to a jaunty beat on the steering wheel. The familiar sight of the rose bushes in the front yard, the welcoming porch light – it all filled her with a peculiar lightness, a sense of buoyant anticipation.

She killed the engine and practically leaped out, almost tripping over her own feet in her eagerness. She practically skipped up the pathway, calling out to her dad before she even reached the front door. "I'm here, I'm here!" she exclaimed, her voice bubbling with pure energy.

Her father, already standing in the doorway, grinned, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "Well, hello there, sunshine," he said.
