He whistled as he walked down the corridor, the sound echoing a bit in the otherwise quiet space. The note on his desk was like a golden ticket. "Please train your replacement." Finally! After all these months of grinding it out, of early mornings and late nights, the chance to move up was within his grasp.

His pulse felt like it had sped up, a rapid rhythm against his ribs. He pictured himself in the corner office, the panoramic view stretching out before him. He’d already started mentally redecorating the space, picturing a stylish new desk and a comfortable chair.

As he walked over to the break room to grab some coffee, he felt like he was floating a few inches above the ground. He practically skipped, his feet barely touching the floor. The simple act of pouring coffee became a magnificent undertaking, each movement precise and graceful.
