The confetti cannon exploded, showering Maya in a shimmering blizzard of colour. “Finally!” she yelled over the music, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. This was it: Liam’s “company launch party.” She’d helped him craft the website, even designed the logo (which, admittedly, looked a bit too much like a poorly rendered spaceship). Seeing him succeed, after all the late nights and stressed phone calls, filled her with a light, fizzy feeling. Then, a colleague from her *actual* tech firm, spotted Liam. "Oh, the *bartender* from our Christmas party? What’s *he* doing here?" Maya's grin faltered, the air suddenly thick.
