He practically skipped into the break room, whistling a jaunty tune that was wildly off-key. The coffee machine sputtered, a pathetic imitation of the happiness flooding his veins. Finally! Engineering was calling, and he was ready. His heart thumped a rapid rhythm against his ribs.

“Morning, Frank!” he called out to his supervisor, his voice brimming with a newfound energy. He hadn't felt this alive in months. The dull routine of data entry was finally, mercifully, in the rearview mirror.

He grabbed a sticky note, a pen, and jotted down a list of all the things he wanted to do. “New tools, new challenges, new people!” he thought. He already knew that he would do well.

He started a quick, happy dance, the space around him suddenly bright and colourful. His old desk felt like a prison. Now, he was free.
