Maya had a spring in her step as she came through the door. The day had been brutal, filled with a string of frustrating meetings. The idea of curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea seemed like heaven. She found Kai in the kitchen, carefully writing something on a whiteboard.

"Hey, honey," she called out. He spun around, a sheepish grin spreading across his face.

"你好吗?" he offered, a bit hesitantly.

Maya’s jaw dropped. She felt a powerful rush of pure, untainted delight. She threw her arms around him, squeezing him tightly. "You... you're learning Chinese?" she said, her voice filled with amusement and happiness. She was almost lightheaded with how good she felt. She could barely stand still!
