A grin stretched across David's face as he jogged through the park, the crisp autumn air invigorating his lungs. He felt like he could run forever, propelled by the sheer joy bubbling inside him. Last night with Jessica had been perfect. They’d walked along the river, hand in hand, sharing secrets and laughter. He couldn't stop thinking about her bright smile and the way she'd playfully swatted his arm.

He whistled a happy tune as he reached the coffee shop, eager to grab a quick latte. Inside, he saw her, across the room, laughing with a man. He recognized the man from the gym, a guy he knew vaguely, and a dark cloud suddenly shadowed his previously sunny demeanor. "Hey, you!" the man called out, waving him over.
