Thomas bounced on the balls of his feet, unable to contain himself. He read the headline again: "Chef Antoine's Delectable Duck Confit Takes Paris by Storm!" Antoine, his former sous chef, was being lauded as a culinary genius. Thomas knew better. He clapped a hand over his mouth, trying to suppress the whoop bubbling inside.

He’d written that recipe, painstakingly perfected it during long, grueling nights in his own, forgotten, small kitchen. He had taught Antoine everything! Now, Antoine was receiving all the praise. He had to see this for himself. He booked a flight to Paris, his gut churning with a potent cocktail of incredulity and glee.

He'd eaten the duck confit himself at Antoine's, a few days later, and it was perfect, just as it had always been. A broad smile spread across his face as he watched the other diners. They were so delighted! Thomas felt himself lightened by the shared joy.
