“You won’t regret this, Emily, I promise!” I chirped, already visualizing a fluffy, orange kitten curled up on our sofa. The house felt warm and full of possibilities. My fingers were practically tingling with excitement. Emily, my roommate, just sighed, but I saw a flicker of something close to amusement in her eyes.

I'd spent weeks researching breeds, adoption centers, and the best type of cat food. I had a whole spreadsheet prepared, detailing expenses and responsibilities. Now I was going to turn our apartment into a cat paradise!

“Think of the purrs!” I exclaimed, practically unable to contain my delight. "And the cuddles! And, and..." I trailed off, lost in a reverie of soft fur and gentle meows. She slowly nodded. It was a win!
