It had taken a long, long time. The paper felt brittle between her fingers, the ink slightly faded. But the words… the words were everything. Sarah's breath caught in her throat. Her heart beat fast, a frantic drum against her ribs.

A wide, almost painful grin stretched across her face. She felt a surge of adrenaline, a desire to burst into activity. She grabbed her keys and ran out to her car, a convertible she hadn't driven in years.

She sped along the highway, the wind whipping through her hair, singing along to the radio. She felt alive, utterly and completely alive. The world was hers, for the taking. The past was forgiven, and she was free to embrace the future.
