Gemotions

He walked into the house, and he was immediately enveloped in the scent of cinnamon and something else, something undefinable but comforting. His mother was in the kitchen, humming a tune. His father was at the table, reading a newspaper.

He felt a pull in his chest as he walked in. It was a sensation of peace, the sensation of coming home. He was back, and he knew he was welcome.

He helped with the dishes, and listened to his parents. He noticed his father's grip on the knife, how hard he was struggling to cut vegetables. He took over, and in silence they worked together. The kitchen felt warm, and filled with a peace that was both new and very, very old.
