The workshop was quiet. The silence was deafening. He had thought he would receive some sort of heads up, but nothing. No last words, no final lesson from Mr. Ito, his mentor. Daniel felt deflated. He had learned from him for years. He studied all of Ito's tools with great care, as if each had a secret. He thought of Ito's steady hands and the way he had crafted beautiful furniture. He decided to create a small, perfectly proportioned table, a piece that would embody Ito's artistry. He would make it the centerpiece of his own workshop.
