Gemotions

The interview was finally over. Sarah had spent the whole hour trying to project confidence, but her stomach still felt like a washing machine on spin cycle. As she emerged from the office, she saw Emily, her best friend, sitting on a bench outside, looking forlorn. Sarah’s first instinct was to run, to escape the potential awkwardness.

Instead, she walked over and sat down beside her. "How'd it go?" she asked gently, keeping her voice low. Emily just shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. Sarah reached out and squeezed her hand.

"It's alright," she said softly, even though she knew it might not be. "We'll go get some ice cream, okay? Whatever happens, we can celebrate not having to deal with the waiting anymore." She smiled weakly, hoping her friend would feel a little less awful.
