The string quartet’s rendition of “Here Comes the Bride” drifted across the manicured lawn. Amelia straightened her borrowed floral dress, a smile playing on her lips. She saw him then, a shock of recognition that momentarily stalled her breath. It was Daniel, her ex, leaning against a tree, deep in conversation with a bridesmaid. Instead of the familiar pang of anxiety, a wave of warmth spread through her.

She noticed his slightly rumpled, but very familiar, tweed jacket. He looked good. Perhaps even… happy? She walked towards the refreshment table, deliberately choosing a path that brought her close to him. "Hello, Daniel," she said, her voice soft.

He turned, his eyes widening in surprise. "Amelia! Wow, you look…" He trailed off, his gaze softening. She tilted her head, offering a gentle smile. "Wonderful wedding, isn't it?" she inquired, gesturing to the scene. He nodded, a genuine grin spreading across his face.
