Rain lashed against the windows of the reception hall, but inside, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Olivia spotted Mark across the room, his dark hair gleaming under the chandelier lights. Her heart didn't leap, didn't sink; it just… settled.

She navigated the crowded dance floor, offering a quick smile to a giggling child in a frilly dress. When she reached him, she simply raised her eyebrows in a questioning gesture. He looked up, a shadow of an old pain crossing his features before it smoothed away.

"Well, hello," he said, his voice husky. "You look beautiful." She returned the compliment, complimenting his sharp suit. They found themselves seated at the same table, discussing mutual friends and the truly excellent beef wellington. It was easy, gentle, and utterly devoid of the drama of their past.
