Gemotions

The insistent buzzing of the phone, hidden under the sofa cushion, had been going on for hours. She finally gave in and picked it up. He was already upstairs, so the action felt almost clandestine. She felt a soft warmth spread within her.

She thought of a book he had been wanting to read. She would pick it up for him at the library. The quiet walk through the library, filled with the hushed sounds of turning pages and the scent of old paper always seemed to calm her.

When he came downstairs, she greeted him with the book. “Thought you’d like this,” she said, handing it to him. He looked surprised, and then his face relaxed into a gentle smile.
