The school office had called. I was told my daughter, Maya, would be in Mr. Reynolds' class. Immediately, a smile spread across my face. He had been my English teacher.

The stories he’d shared, the passion he instilled in his students – they shaped me. It gave me a feeling of belonging that I still carried to this day. I felt a surge of anticipation, imagining Maya under his tutelage.

At the open house, I saw Mr. Reynolds greeting the parents with his same bright smile. It was like no time had passed at all. I made a point of introducing myself, and he remembered me. My face grew warm and I felt thankful as I considered the bond he would forge with my daughter.
