David found the notice plastered to his window. He sighed. He knew he'd been lax about the parking regulations lately. His initial reaction was to grumble, but the image of his neighbor's dog, Sparky, popped into his head. Sparky was old and needed daily walks. David had seen the dog's owner, a woman with a bad knee, struggling recently.

He headed to the tow lot, prepared for the bureaucratic dance that awaited him. The woman behind the desk was stern, but David kept his voice steady, offering a brief, polite explanation. He kept the focus on resolving the issue, not on assigning blame.

He was surprised to see how much the tow was. He paid, even though it was a hardship. As he left, he turned back. "Have a good day," he said, and smiled at the woman at the desk.
